The Power of Organization

Organization is the foundation of success in the kitchen. Start by asking yourself: What am I cooking today?

  1. Read the Recipe Thoroughly
Before diving in, read through the recipe carefully. This helps you identify the tools and ingredients you’ll need upfront.
  2. Gather and Arrange Tools and Ingredients
I always gather my tools first and lay them out within easy reach. Next, I place my ingredients on a cafeteria tray to keep everything contained and organized.
  3. Measure and Store as You Go
As I measure ingredients, I immediately put them away. This helps me keep track of what’s been used and avoids confusion.

Adapting Your Kitchen

Making your kitchen accessible is crucial. Here are a few ways I’ve adapted my space:

  • Bump Dots for Appliances
Small tactile bump dots on my oven’s temperature controls allow me to quickly and accurately set frequently used temperatures.
  • Cut-Resistant Gloves
One of my early challenges was cutting vegetables. To make this safer, my son got me a pair of cut-resistant gloves designed for kitchen use. These gloves are washable and have been a game-changer, eliminating my fear of injury.

Cooking Techniques

  • Mixing Ingredients
I usually mix dry and wet ingredients separately before combining them. This method reduces spills and ensures a smoother cooking process.
