Being something of a gypsy at heart, I couldn’t resist the chance to embark on a South Pacific cruise. So, when my niece invited me to join her on an adventure to see Noumea, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia, I jumped at the opportunity without hesitation. I came out here in May, and now, with just 20 days left before departure, I can hardly contain my excitement.
Preparing for the Journey
With the countdown underway, I’ve been checking things off my to-do list:
- Passport: Ready and valid.
- Tickets: Secured and safely stored.
- New Clothes: Packed and cruise-ready.
- Travel Purse: Perfect for excursions.
- Onboard Assistance: Arranged in advance for peace of mind.
- Door Identification Plan: Ready to make my cabin stand out in a sea of sameness.
Tackling the Fear of Getting Lost
I’ll admit, the thought of navigating a massive cruise ship with identical corridors and doors is a bit daunting, especially with my vision challenges. My sister had a brilliant suggestion: marking my cabin door with something unique to ensure I can easily identify it.
Additionally, I’ve been brainstorming other solutions. I plan to:
- Use the same elevator consistently to orient myself.
- Drop a pin near my cabin using a navigation app.
While these methods might be new to me, I’m determined to practice over the next 20 days. Dropping pins and using apps to navigate is a skill I learned a while back but haven’t had much opportunity to apply. This cruise will give me the perfect reason to put that training into action.
Excitement Meets Preparation
As a seasoned traveler, this cruise feels like both an adventure and a challenge. The excitement of exploring new places like Vanuatu and New Caledonia is undeniable, but so is the anticipation of mastering the art of getting around the ship.
Stay tuned for updates as I dive into this incredible journey. Here’s to 20 days of preparation and a lifetime of memories waiting to be made!
